Rishabh Pant's Somersault Celebration Draws Reaction from Doctor Who Aided His Recovery
Rishabh Pant recently showcased his signature flamboyance during the first Test against England, delivering two impressive centuries. However, a particular celebratory move after reaching his hundred has sparked some discussion.
Rishabh Pant celebrates century with a cartwheel.
Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the surgeon who played a crucial role in Pant's recovery after his serious car accident in December 2022, shared his thoughts on Pant's now-viral somersault celebration. In an interview with The Telegraph, Dr. Pardiwala noted: “Rishabh trained as a gymnast. Although he looks large, he is quite agile, and he does have a lot of flexibility. And, that’s why he’s been doing those somersaults of late. It’s a well-practised and perfected move — unnecessary though!”
Pant's return to the cricket field is a testament to his resilience. On December 30, 2022, while driving from Delhi to Roorkee, he lost control of his vehicle, resulting in a crash that caused multiple injuries and sidelined him for several months.
Against England, Pant displayed the qualities that make him a highly valued player in Test cricket. He struck a rapid 134 in the first innings and followed it up with 118 in the second. Despite his efforts, India was unable to defend a target of 371 and lost by five wickets.
Pant's record in England underscores his affinity for challenging conditions. He has accumulated 808 runs in 10 Tests, averaging 42.52, which includes four centuries and two half-centuries. His highest score remains a memorable 146.
