The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is poised to launch its own T20 league starting in the 2025-26 season, joining a growing trend among state associations.
Anil Patel, Secretary of the GCA, confirmed the association's decision. While the launch is confirmed, the GCA is still working out the details. "We are yet to find a suitable window for the tournament," Patel stated to Cricbuzz. The number of participating teams and other specifics are also yet to be finalized.
These domestic T20 leagues have become crucial platforms for Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises to scout emerging talent. Leagues in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra, and Saurashtra provide opportunities for local players to gain recognition and potentially advance their careers. Many of these leagues typically take place in June and July, following the conclusion of the IPL season in May.
